Edge has built itself from the beginning with attention toward the energy efficiency market.  While other film manufacturers may see energy efficiency as a ‘marketing tool’, at Edge it is in our core.

We are not guessing at energy savings using ‘back of the envelope’ tools and hoping for a ‘good number’ like a Jack in the Box!  We stand behind our engineered calculations!

Window Tinting – Tips for After Installation

There are a few things that you should know about window tinting and the adhesives and coatings used to apply your film and keep the heat out.
After getting your car’s window tinted, you should keep the windows rolled up for at least three to four days based on the film type (check with your professional window film installer for more information). By doing so, you allow the adhesive on the edges to cure and become a permanent bond. Otherwise, the tint can start to peel off as it rolls in and out of the frame and gasketing.

Also, don’t worry if your windows have water pockets or look a little hazy after getting tinted because it is completely normal. It may even look perfect the day of installation and develop these conditions over the next day or two.

The water from the mounting solution will evaporate and if you want the windows to dry faster, park the car where it gets most sunlight.
If you have any questions, contact your professional window film installer for more guidance.

BTU Meters

Nobody ever wants to read the “Message from the President”, right? This section is dedicated to answering questions our current Edge dealers have had recently — and maybe we’ll help you out also.

Recently there has been alot of good discussion about BTU meters on Facebook and other places. I recommend you check it out – the purpose of this post is to answer the more basic question of “What is a BTU meter measuring and is it good at it?”

We deal in alot of complex topics in TSER, IR Rejection, etc — this is not a complex discussion of correlating BTU meter readings to other specifications like TSER. This is a SIMPLE discussion of whether a BTU meter can measure Solar Transmission well – after all, that is what it’s doing right?

However, if a BTU meter reading correlated linearly to MFR Solar Transmission, the data would fall on a straight line (represented by orange in the graph below). In addition, there are “Error Bars” that represent an error of 20% of the reading.

Bear in mind, these readings were taken in a controlled way – same distance, same angle – the resulting correlation would be MUCH WORSE standing at a kitchen table pointing your meter at the window.

SO WHAT? The “so what” is that a BTU meter can be very good for showing ‘yes it’s better’ but do not try to use a BTU meter so say that one film is “such and such” percent better than another because the BTU meter is not good at quantitative comparisons.

So you think you want to “DIY” window tinting? THINK AGAIN!

You may have seen some do-it-yourself window tinting kits online, which commonly cost you $30 to $150. Those DIY tint kits boast about requiring less than professional tinting skills and still providing exceptional results. However, just because you can install drywall, plumbing, and other “DIY” projects does not mean you can install window film (well, at least you can’t install it cleanly).

Some people are attracted to any DIY project including window film and buy without much thought because it seems like such a bargain! However, with DIY window tinting you often get poor quality PRODUCTS and a NOVICE INSTALLER (you). Fast forward a few months – sometimes weeks – after tinting your windows and you may notice the tint is dirty underneath, peeling off your vehicle, or turning purple and bubbly. Spend your weekends DIY’ing all over your house but always look for a professional in your area who can install your window tinting.
